Michael Clouse 1789-1867 and wife Anna Mariah Bonewitz 1784-1872. I have as yet not had the fortunate opportunity to visit Rickel Cemetery myself but was informed by the photographer that Rickel Cemetery is a small cemetery in a rather hard to find location near an Amish Farm, off a county road , in Ashland County, Ohio. As can be seen by the photographs, the cemetery is in an alarming state of disrepair. Grandfather Michael Clouse's headstone is off it's base and lying on the ground while grandmother Anna's headstone is leaning and ready to fall. I fear that in relatively short time many of the headstones in this cemetery will disappear, leaving future generations with little more than these photographs. What a loss that will be for our decedents.

Michael Clouse 1789-1867
Immigrated to the US from Alsace, Germany. It states in the Allan and Van Wert County History that Michael was a Tailor and owned a 160 acres farm in Wayne County. Other records show that he was a Wayne County trustee in 1840. He appears on the 1823 Ohio Census in Wayne County, Congress Township. He married Anna Mariah Bonewitz 1784-1872. Her headstone is the one still standing by Michael's in the above photo's. Other Clouse Family members are also buried in Rickel Cemetery. See photo's index of this website.
