Leander Clouse 1857-1888
Leander Clouse was born in Ashland Co., Jackson Twp., Ohio on 15 Feb 1857. Leander was the son of Simon Clouse and Sarah Elizabeth Newcomer of Pennsylvania. Leander and his parents moved to Wayne County, Ohio, about 1820 and then to Ashland County, Jackson Twp., in 1852, where his father built a log cabin, cleared the land of trees and farmed. Leander had 6 siblings, Mary, Jasper, Louis, Oliver and Jacob. Leander died in Ashland County and is buried there in Rickel Cemetery. The Rickel family were neighbors and several Clouse family members are buried there including his mother and father. It is a small cemetery located in a wooded area and only visible from the road in the winter when the trees are bare. Leander's Headstone is off it's base and lying on the ground. Sadly, many of the headstones in this cemetery are knocked over or broken off and lying on the ground.
