Anna Gertrude (Fromme) Kohus 1844-1909
Anna Gertrude Fromme was born 27 Nov 1844 in Ostbevern, Westfalen, (Westphalia) Prussia. Her parents were Johann Heinrich Fromme and Anna Maria Elisabeth Bruske. Anna Gertrude Fromme and her son emigrated to Cincinnati, Ohio in 1867. Her son Bernard Heinrich ( known as Henry B. in America) was born 14 Nov 1865 in Ostbevern. No father was reported on his birth record so Gertrude must not have been married at the time of her son's birth. Bernard's godfather, as indicated on his birth record from St. Ambrosius Church in Ostbrevern was Bernard Kohues the brother of Joan Heinrich Kohues who Gertrude later married in Cincinnati, Ohio at St. Paul Church on 23 Jul 1867. Her husband immigrated in 1865 and Americanized his name to Henry Kohus. Henry was a tailor by trade. He worked in his own tailoring businesses and later in life included his son Henry B. Kohus in one business venture called Kohus and Son. Anna and Henry has at least 6 children I can account for, Henry B., George, William, Edward, Gertrude and Florence. Anna Gertrude (Fromme) Kohus died in Cincinnati, Ohio on 4 Jan 1909. Her husband Henry died 5 Apr 1913. They are both buried in Calvary Cemetery, Cincinnati, Ohio.
