William Norvel Hargis 1869-1946 , Nancy (Gearhart) Hargis 1871-1959
William Norvel Hargis was born in Rowan Co., Kentucky on 10 Nov 1869. He was the son of Jacob Weddington Hargis 1828-1915 and Nancy Jane Calhoun 1842-1919. William was a farmer by trade and also worked as a logger. According to family stories, he met his wife Nancy Ethel Gearhart while floating logs down river to the saw mill. Nancy worked as a cook and fed the logging crews that passed by on the river. William and Nancy were married on 24 Aug 1892 in Rowan County, Kentucky. They had 7 children, Eugenia E., Charles Ottis, Sally Ann, Lottie M., Thomas Allen, Jack Earl and Mary Avonelle. William Norvel Hargis died on 22 Jul 1946 in Rowan County. His wife Nancy moved to Mesa Arizona where she lived with her son Jack and daughters Avonelle and Eugenia. She died on 24 Oct 1959. Both William Norvel Hargis and Nancy Ethel (Gearhart) Hargis are buried in Brown Cemetery, Morehead, Rowan County, Kentucky.
