Robert Clifford Hargis 1874-1955
Robert Clifford Hargis was born 12 May 1894, the son of Jacob Weddington Hargis and Nancy Jane Calhoun. He had 7 siblings, Louisa, Marcie, Mary A., Amandy, William Norvel, Florence B. and Harvey Sanders Hargis. Robert was a farmer by trade and lived his entire life in Rowan, Co., Kentucky. He married Amanda Susan Hall daughter of Ben Hall and Clemie Tolliver, on 14 May 1904. They had 2 children that I know of, Flora E. Hargis and Audrey Allen Hargis. His wife Amanda Susan (Hall) Hargis died 7 May 1948. Robert Clifford Hargis died on 1 Dec 1955. They were originally buried in the Hargis Family Cemetery but were later exhumed and moved to New Alfrey Cemetery in Rowan County. The Army Corps of Engineers relocated several family cemeteries in Rowan County when they built a dam and created Cave Run Lake.
