Nancy Jane Calhoun was born on 19 May 1842 in Breathitt Co., Kentucky. She was the daughter of James Calhoun and Mary "Polly" Hogg. She married Jacob Weddington Hargis about 1860, after his first wife died. They relocated to Rowan County, Kentucky where they farmed and raised their family. Nancy died on 25 May 1919 and was buried in the Hargis Family Cemetery. When the Licking River dam was built creating Cave Run Lake, the cemetery was relocated to New Alfrey Cemetery. New Alfrey Cemetery is where she and Jacob are buried.
