Veronica (Determann) Kohus was born in Recke, Prussia, on 1 Feb 1833 only a short distance from Ostbevern where her husband Johann Hermann was born. She was 21 years old when she emigrated to America through the port at Bremen to the port in Baltimore, arriving there on 13 Nov 1854. The following year after her arrival she married John Kohus 24 Nov 1855 at St. Philomenna Church, Cincinnati, Ohio. Her death occurred on 2 Jan 1913 from a disease called La Grippe. She was buried in Old St. Joseph Cemetery Cincinnati, Ohio on 6 Jan 1913.
