Lizzie LaFever 1888-1905
Lizzie was the daughter of Andrew Jackson and Julia (Lacey) LaFever. She married Herbert Bernard Kohus Sr. on 7 Sep 1903. Lizzie died while giving birth to her daughter Julia Alma Kohus on 1 Jan 1905. Family stories have it that after Lizzie died, 18 year old Herbert could not properly care for daughter Julia by himself so she went to live with her grandparents in Indiana. After Herbert married his second wife Mabel Duncan, he took Julia back to live with them. It is said that when Lizzie's brother James LaFever returned home to find Julia gone from the house he become so upset that he left and was never seen again. Lizzie (LaFever) Kohus is buried in Section, J-2, Greendale Cemetery, Greendale, Dearborn Co., Indiana. This headstone was crafted from concrete by her father Andrew. As you can see, all the information it bares is her initials L K.
