Breathitt County, Kentucky. He practiced Law in Breathitt County until 1856 then

Hargis, John Louis (1802-1886) — also known as "Bally John" — of Jackson,
Breathitt County, Ky.; Morehead, Rowan County, Ky. Born in Washington County,
Va., March 4, 1802. Uncle of John Seldon Hargis; father-in-law of Archibald
Calloway Cope; father of Thomas Frazier Hargis; granduncle of Alexander Hamilton
Hargis and James Henderson Hargis. Lawyer; delegate to Kentucky state
constitutional convention, 1849; member of Kentucky state house of
representatives, 1855-57. Removed from office as Breathitt County Court Clerk in
1846 over unspecified charges against him. Died in Morehead, Rowan County, Ky.,
April 2, 1886. Interment somewhere in Morehead, Ky. (Political Graveyard,
